Weekly Response
Because I want to know what all of you are thinking, and because some of you are more vocal in class than others, one way to give everyone a chance to comment and participate is through weekly responses. These responses will also help develop your critical reading and responding skills. Starting week 2, every Friday you will have a 1-pg typed, double space response due. You can respond to the readings, the course discussions, connect readings and discussions to previous weeks or the current project you are working on. These responses are not expected to be perfect, but I do expect that you put thought into them. "I liked this reading. It was good. We had a good discussion over it." is not acceptable. Also, responses are not summaries -- some questions to help guide you through the first few are below.
Can you use the examples in the reading or course discussion to remind yourself of an example in your life? If you had a chance to talk to the author about their work and ideas, what would you say? What other issues have you been reminded about this week? Does X happen everywhere or just in select areas? Gender based? Socio-economic status based? Age based? Are there solutions to anything we bring up in class? Do you think this is an important issue or topic?
